German teachers have worked collaboratively with the Goethe-Institut (GI) since the GI's arrival in Melbourne in 1972. GI personnel helped write and produce the first SZENE, a quarterly teachers' journal for German teachers. The GI has been represented on the AGTV Committee since its inception. Tertiary students and teachers have received scholarships to Germany to improve their language and cultural knowledge, attended GI Summer Schools and many other programs held at the GI in Melbourne. The GI was instrumental in promoting the development of AGTV Networks and supporting Networks through professional learning activities and GI Resource Centres. The AGTV and GI Melbourne continue to work cooperatively to support German teachers and their students through activities and the production of support materials.
The AGTV has enjoyed a cooperative partnership with the Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur (BMUKK) in Austria since 1999 in providing presenters for our State Conference and opportunities to attend in-country seminars.
In 2002 the first scholarship for a teacher of Germany to Switzerland was awarded by the Swiss Consulate as a result of the cooperation through the Joint-Standing Committee for German.
