Goethe-Institut / AGTV Year 10 Award 2008 - the Goethe-Institut, in collaboration with the AGTV offers this competition in May each year. This is a fantastic opportunity for all students of German in Year 10 to win a scholarship to Germany to attend the three-week Goethe-Institut winter holiday course in Germany! The awards are presented on the main stage at Federation Square at the "German Day Out" on July 25 2008. The Deadline for applications is 15 May 2008. For more details CLICK HERE
Goethe-Insitut and AGTV Primary Zoo Day - for a roaring day of fun, the Goethe-Institut and the AGTV invite all primary students Years 3 to 6 and their teachers to the Melbourne Zoo on May 22. We will see the animals, play games and dance with Schnappi at the Animal Carnival! Special prizes will be awarded for the best animal masks, which you can prepare at school before the day.

Your registration includes an Information Pack with fun Classroom Learning Activities, Games, Zoo-Rally, Teacher Information and Certificates for all students. Students will have to bring their own lunch. Registration is absolutely essential, by April 18, to enable us to plan the day and to provide you with the Information Pack for the Zoo-Day! New Visual Resource - ABC1 School TV Neue Freunde - a compelling 20 part docu-drama in which the viewer gets to know the teenagers Bastian, Oliver, Katrin and Jasmine. The series is produced on location in Germany and involves the young teenagers, their families and friends. Waldtiere: new Project for Primary Students - this project is now online. Eight different forest animals are travelling around the world as guests of primary schools. Each animal carries a travel diary. Classes who host a forest animal are invited to contribute to this diary with poems, good wishes, greetings, photos etc. The forest animals prefer to visit schools who subscribe to the magazine “Frühes Deutsch”! Bei mir - bei dir: Our place (Intercultural Learning through Photos) - What is considered completely normal on one side of the planet might be totally fremd on the other.

Students in Victoria take pictures of their lives. They show a unique world of local customs and every day life. Students share their photo stories via the Internet with their partner schools in Germany.

Students in a Germany learn about the Australian way of life. The German students reply with a photographic answer to one of the photos they receive from Australia. Using the Internet they share their answers with their Australian partners.

The focus on bei mir and bei dir facilitates the students' exploration of similarities and differences within and across cultures through sharing photos and individual stories. This promotes reflection about diversity throughout the world in which we all live - Our Place.

At the end of the project German teachers at Australian schools submit their best pairs of photos to the Goethe-Institut in Melbourne. A selection of these will be shown at an exhibition in Melbourne during Term 3, 2008 and may later be exhibited throughout schools in Victoria and Germany. For more details, CLICK HERE

Inter-cultural E-mail Project "Odysee"- so far, over 20 000 students in 40 countries have participated in this game offered by the Goethe-Institut Moscow. Several classes correspond with each other over a period of 5 weeks, without knowing where the others are located. The aim of the game is that students find out themselves where their partner classes are located - a voyage of discovery around the world through which students from other countries meet and get to know each other. www.goethe.de/odyssee

Free Internet-based Curriculum Resource: Languages Online - http://www.eduweb.vic.gov.au/languagesonline is a free web resource for students in the Early and Middle Years learning German. It offers over 120 self-paced, interactive tasks and 120 printable worksheets in each language. Languages Online offers fun activities that help students engage with the language and take responsibility for learning and revision. It’s an initiative of the LOTE ESL and Multicultural Education Unit in Education Victoria’s Office of Learning and Teaching.

für den Einsatz im Kindergarten bzw. die Einführung eines DaF-Angebots in Kiga und/oder Vorschule haben wir (Goethe-Institut) ein "Curriculum" entwickelt, das in einer ersten Testphase Anfang September an Interessenten verschickt werden soll
Institute oder Multiplikatoren, die versuchen wollen, das Material einzusetzen oder in Schulungen zu verwenden, können sich bei mir melden. Für den Gratisversand erwarten wir eine Erprobung und ein ausführliches Feedback bis zum 15.01.08. Die Rückmeldungen werden wir aufnehmen und im Jahr 2008 eine endgültige Version drucken lassen.

Zum Curriculum (es sind eher Basis-Empfehlungen) gehören auch eine kleine Handpuppe und eine CD (wird erst Ende September vorliegen); dieses Material steht auch gratis zur Verfügung und wird erst im kommenden Jahr ggf. kostenpflichtig sein.

Joseph Beuys & Rudolf Steiner: Fantasy, Inspiration, Intuition - this free exhibition presented by the National Gallery of Victoria will examine the connections between the art of Beuys and the philosophy of Steiner. The writings of Austrian philosopher Steiner exerted a profound impact on German-born Beuys, one of the most important artists of the post-war period. Some forty blackboard drawings will be on loan from the Rudolf Steiner Archive, Dornach. As expressions of feelings, the colour and movement of Steiner’s chalk drawings are both engaging and esoteric. For more details CLICK HERE
Young people working on a documentary film on uranium mining and nuclear power seek accommodation in Melbourne - the results of uranium mining in Australia are currently being examined within the framework of a youth project. This topic is the subject of a documentary film which, is being produced for a target audience of young persons in Australia and Europe. The project is partly financed by the European Union's "Youth in Action" program, it's partner organisation is the non-governmental organisation "Young Friends of the Earth Germany". In February and March 2008 filming will take place in Australia. A small team of 2-4 people will travel to Melbourne and will require accommodation in the city or surrounding region. If you have space in your family home, or in your shared flat/ house, to accommodate one or two members of the film team, or if you have a furnished apartment to rent at a reasonable rate please contact us at: contact@nukingtheclimate.com

The project participants taking part in this activity range in age from 26-28 years old and have experience living in shared accommodation, they are also prepared to assist with household duties. The filming team will often undertake long journeys to uranium mines and to meet interview partners in Canberra and Sydney. Ttherefore accommodation will only be required for about half of the period in February and March 2008.

18 Aug to 5 Sep 2008 at the Australian Academy of Design, Melbourne - exhibition "Of fairies, monsters, ghosts and creatures - Contemporary German Children's Book Illustration"
The exhibition will be accompanied by an extensive program which includes workshops for teachers of Art and German as well as workshops for school classes held by German artists in residence Karoline Kehr and Gabie Hilgert. Places for all workshops are limited to 30, therefore booking is essential. Costs are $40 pp for a teacher workshop and $250 for a school workshop. Government schools can apply to the AGTV for financial support.

You and your class can also join our free exhibition tours. We will also provide free school material in German, English or German and English which contains pre- and post-visiting ideas as well as an exhibition rallye!

Besuch der alten Dame - Germanic Players (The University of Melbourne) Aug 27-30 - five performances will be held at 2pm and 8pm on Wednesday 27th and at 8pm on Thursday 28th, Friday 29th Saturday 30th August in the Guild Theatre, Union House building at the University of Melbourne Parkville campus.

The Germanic Players, with a history of nearly 20 years is The University of Melbourne’s German speaking theatre group. The Germanic Players is an entirely student run organization and has staged productions by German playwrights such as Bertolt Brecht and Roland Schimpelpfennig.

All aspects of the productions are fulfilled by Melbourne University students and performances are supported by both students and the general public. The Germanic Players makes a particular effort to invite secondary school students studying German, German students from other universities, the Goethe Institute and other German teaching professionals
