From 2003 the journal has been produced in cooperation with the Network of Australian Teachers of German (NATG) for teachers throughout Australia. SZENE reflects the 'Zusammenkommen' of teachers of German throughout Australia.

The first SZENE was published in 1981 by the AGTV in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Melbourne and was hand-typed, run off on a gesteatner. In time, teachers from throughout Australia subscribed to SZENE. Teachers appreciate the content as relevant to Australian classrooms and it has been a popular form of communication and sharing.

The AGTV is most grateful to the Goethe-Institut in München and the Melbourne branch for their financial support and other assistance over many years. SZENE is managed by the AGTV and funded by subscriptions, advertising and occasional contributions from Goethe-Institut Australia and others.

The AGTV contracts the services of an Editor to produce the journal. An AGTV Sub-Committee assists the Editor and the AGTV is grateful for the support of the German Advisers throughout Australia for their contributions and advice. Contributions are welcome from all teachers including reports on activities, current issues and teacher resources.

Victorian Subscriptions include membership of the AGTV. For information about subscriptions from other states and contributions to SZENE contact the Editor of SZENE: szene@germanlinx.vic.edu.au.
